UK Fiancé Visa – Expert Immigration Lawyers

Join Your Partner in the UK with a Fiancé Visa

The UK Fiancé Visa allows non-UK nationals to enter the UK to marry or form a civil partnership with a British citizen or settled person. Our expert UK immigration lawyer has 25 years experience, helping couples reunite through successful visa applications.

This visa is granted under Appendix FM of the UK Immigration Rules and is specifically designed for couples who are legally engaged and intend to marry or enter into a civil partnership within six months of the applicant’s arrival in the UK. Applicants must submit their visa application from outside the UK and be prepared to demonstrate their genuine relationship and future life together. Successful approval leads to entry clearance for six months, after which a subsequent application to switch to a Spouse Visa can be made once the marriage has taken place.

UK Fiancé Visa Requirements

To qualify for a UK Fiancé Visa, you must:

  • Be engaged to a British citizen or a person with settled status.

  • Plan to marry or enter a civil partnership within 6 months of arrival.

  • Meet the financial requirement (sponsor must earn at least £29,000 per year).

  • Provide evidence of a genuine and subsisting relationship.

  • Show you have suitable accommodation in the UK.

  • Meet the English language requirement.

Each of these requirements must be supported by appropriate documentation. For example, financial evidence should consist of payslips, bank statements, and employer letters showing sustained income. Relationship evidence should cover communication history, visits, and shared future plans. Accommodation must be adequate and not reliant on public funds. The English language requirement is typically met by passing an approved test at CEFR level A1 or higher, unless an exemption applies.

Common Challenges in Fiancé Visa Applications

  • Meeting the Financial Requirement – Ensuring income sources are acceptable.

  • Providing Sufficient Relationship Evidence – Avoiding refusals due to weak documentation.

  • English Language Test – Meeting the Home Office language requirements.

  • Transitioning to a Spouse Visa – Ensuring smooth visa extension after marriage.

Our immigration experts specialise in overcoming refusals and complex cases, ensuring you have the highest chance of success. Other common challenges include demonstrating suitable accommodation, ensuring all documentation is correctly translated and certified where required, and managing any previous immigration history that might affect the application. Early preparation and professional review significantly reduce the risk of requests for further evidence or refusals.

Applications should ideally be submitted well in advance of any planned travel or wedding date, as processing times can vary by country and may take several months. Priority services may be available in some locations to expedite decisions, although these do not guarantee approval and applicants must still meet all requirements.
